How to fix the STOP: 0x0000003F or Stop 0x3F or NO_MORE_SYSTEM_PTES error

Stop errors (blue screen) in Windows

Stop errors (also called blue screen errors or blue screen of death errors) are the most severe errors Windows can encounter. They occur if a serious problem causes your Windows system to shut down or restart unexpectedly. You might see a message that says "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer".

These errors can be caused by both hardware and software issues, and it can be difficult to troubleshoot the problem. In reality, the most common cause of blue screen errors is a device driver problem. Outdated, incorrect or corrupt drivers can cause the system to encounter a Stop error. You can use a driver update program to check, find, download and update all device drivers automatically.

The following tools and methods can also help you get Windows up and running again.

What is the NO MORE SYSTEM PTES error

The NO_MORE_SYSTEM_PTES bug check has a value of 0x0000003F. This indicates one or more of the following problems:
  • The system Page Table Entries (PTEs) are depleted or fragmented because the system is performing a large number of Input/Output (I/O) actions.
  • A faulty device driver is not managing memory properly.
  • An application, such as a backup program, is improperly allocating large amounts of kernel memory.

In almost all cases, the system is not actually out of PTEs. Rather, a driver has requested a large block of memory, but there is no contiguous block of sufficient size to satisfy this request. Often video drivers will allocate large amounts of kernel memory that must succeed. Some backup programs do the same.

The following suggestions can help you resolve the NO MORE SYSTEM PTES error:

This Stop error can occur after you install faulty drivers or system services. If a driver file name is given, you need to disable, remove, or roll back that driver. If not, disable the recently installed service or application to determine whether this resolves the error. If this does not resolve the problem, contact the hardware manufacturer for updates. Using updated drivers and software is especially important for backup programs, multimedia applications, antivirus scanners, DVD playback, and CD mastering tools.

In most cases the NO MORE SYSTEM PTES error can be solved by updating the drivers for the device causing the error. Also make sure you update your Windows and antivirus software, as some of these errors are not caused by hardware, but software problems. You can use the Windows device manager to uninstall any currently installed driver for the device and reinstall the latest driver. When you reboot your PC after uninstalling the drivers, Windows will detect the new hardware, which allows you to install manually the latest drivers for the device.

If you do not have the drivers for the device in error, or are not comfortable in using the Windows device manager, you can also use a driver update program to find, download and update all device drivers for you. Driver update software will accurately identify your hardware, including the device in error, and automatically install the latest drivers for it. This can solve easily NO MORE SYSTEM PTES errors.
